stems glabrous throughout, very occasionally hairy on leaves and carpels

leaflets plus leaf segments 10-15, ovate-orbicular or broad-ovate, acute, less frequently obtuse or short-acuminate at the apex,
5-15cm long, 2-8cm wide, glabrous, very occasionally puberulous on the lower surface
Flowers: Season: late April to early June

Bracts: involucrate bracts usually 1 or 2, leaf-like
Sepals: usually 3, less frequently 2, all or mostly rounded at the apex,
1.5-3.5cm long, 1-2.5cm wide, purple
